Vyshyvanka Ukrainian Dance Group

Heritage, energy and community.

An energetic community workshop for adults — authentic Ukrainian folk and character dance, full-body conditioning, and stage choreography in a warm, welcoming ensemble.

Our mission
To keep the living tradition of Ukrainian folk dance alive in Charlotte — sharing its energy, stories and joy with anyone who wants to learn, whatever their background.
  • A Cultural Mission

Every dance carries a region, a costume and a story. You learn the steps and the meaning behind them — from Hopak leaps to the graceful circles of Polissia.

  • A Real Workout

Expect a moderate-to-high intensity class: stamping rhythms, squats, spins and jumps build leg strength, stamina and coordination. Every move can be scaled to your level.

  • Authentic Stage Choreography

Learn character technique and genuine ensemble choreography taught by a former Virsky Ensemble performer — the way it is danced on professional stages.

  • A Welcoming Community

No experience or Ukrainian heritage needed. Come for the workout, stay for the friendships, the music and the chance to perform together.

What to wear

  • Comfortable athletic clothing you can move and squat in
  • Women: a wide skirt helps with spins (optional)
  • Character shoes or supportive sneakers
